Brave New Town

Big Finish audio drama, March 2008

Wow!  What a whopper of a story here!  This mystery town where no one shows up on heat sensing radar?  Possible saboteurs, possible kooky people who don’t eat, if you’re looking for weirdness, you’ve found it!  Though how it all comes to a head now when the Doctor arrives is a bit mysterious.  Sally only walked off the farm, so to speak, just last week or something?  A sea disappears over a long period of time and nothing happens for awhile?  Wowee.

It’s well acted and well told, as stories go, and I really enjoyed it.  I definitely enjoy that the real issue with the people isn’t revealed until almost the middle of the story.  What the heck is going on that they’re drilling in the middle of the sea basin?  Interesting.  Uzbekistan is definitely on the fringes of what we know here in the west so sure, a sea disappearing wouldn’t necessarily be noticed by the western press.  I’d believe it!  Though how the local military reacts is a bit odd, like they’re looking for trouble.

But everything is really just amazing to check out.  And I don’t envy that general fella’s odds of getting everyone to do what he wants and make millions.  Hehehe.  The Doctor even escapes him so how well will it go for him with the people?  A fun one overall, though it does bother me that the TARDIS doesn’t seem to be translating writing anymore for the Doctor and his companions.  Lucy can’t read the Cyrillic—what’s up with that?
