Big Finish 8th Doctor New Adventure, September 2009
Whoa! What the??? The ending to this totally took me off-guard as I really wasn’t expecting it to end! Wow. This is one hum-dinger of a tale! Things happen at a pretty quick pace and go back and forth from the Doctor to Lucie, ratcheting up the tension. People start dying left and right and the Headhunter is back again, naturally. She’s ever-present and I have to wonder if she’ll come to a bad end, dealing with bad aliens all over the universe.
The part of this story that makes it resonate the most is the setting – modern times. There is an alternate universe where the Earth is almost constantly in peril from alien races that want to take it over and wow, is that a fun and dangerous place for those doing the rescuing but scary as hell for anyone caught in the crossfire. This episode really set us into the middle of things, showing us the news and things happening around the small part of the world where Lucie and the Doctor are trying to rescue the world again. Great stuff!
