Foe from the Future

Big Finish Lost Adventure #3.09, January 2012

This is a FABULOUS story!  It really brings back the feel of the 1970’s stories but in a really cohesive, well thought out, action packed adventure.  The characters are all in danger at various times, there are great cliffhangers all over the place (not necessarily at the end of episodes!), and a couple of villains who have their own reasons for being the baddies.  It all centers around human emotions and motivations for power and love in this aberrant future on Earth.  Who are the these Pantophageon?  Transdimensional creatures from the Vortex (Vooorrrrtteeexxxx), sure, but what’s their motive?  They seem pretty much to be bugs in the Vortex – something to avoid, that’s for sure!

The only complaint I have about the story is that I think the Doctor and Leela start out the story with Charlotte from the Village in the 1870s and somehow end up in the 1970s.  The Doctor mentions that time’s unstable and we do see evidence of it but does it jump 100 years that easily?  It’s a bit difficult to believe when you go back and think about it but it really didn’t take away from the story at all for me.  Another well done John Dorney script!  He’s really working a lot at Big Finish lately so I sure hope he’s on staff because he’s good. ;)
