No More Lies

Big Finish audio drama, June 2007

This story starts out on a high level of intensity as Lucie and the Doctor are running around a ship that’s under attack.  Then we switch to a suave dinner party with Gordon and Nick and Rachel all chatting and enjoying themselves.  Then back to the ship and Zimmerman’s doing what he can to stop the Doctor and Lucie.  Then dinner party.  My head spins!  But then they all arrive safely at the dinner party to the end of things.

Doctor: “You want to save the planet, don’t you?  Solve the crime.  Make things right.”

Gordon: “Yes.  But I hadn’t envisaged doing it from the back of a giant prehistoric time-bat called Margaret!”

Doctor: “A mere detail.  Right.  Come on!”

I rather enjoy this adventure but it seems very odd that the party is self-contained in this time loop but the rest of the planet doesn’t notice.  And the food never runs out.  All for the love of Rachel, Nick’s wife, who’s dying.  It’s very touching but ultimately a sad ending and not very impressive.  The Doctor solves the problem though people die before he can get there.  The ending of the story is a bit disappointing, ultimately.  Not horrid, just not as good as it should be.  Very good overall!
