2002, Special Release I
One of the side adventures for the Doctor with Evelyn Smythe. There’s a mystery about the teams of scientists on a planet who keep disappearing with a time distortion and the last communication of the second team is “Cyberman.” So the Doctor’s called in. There’s the mystery man who is watching them. And the ending is never, ever discussed in any further adventures, either. Spooky!
But we know what happens to Evelyn, don’t we? She isn’t destroyed here but lives to marry and be happy with Rossiter. So this one fits in yet doesn’t on the entire timeline type of thing. There are all kinds of laws of time broken for it. Strange but it is a compelling audio due to Goddard, played by Yee Jee Tso from the TV movie, and his capabilities. And the ending. They both save the audio from oblivion! It fits in well with most Colin Baker audio adventures and is good in many ways. But it’s not an audio I remember and want to listen to a lot. If I didn’t have over 100 other audios to choose from, perhaps I’d listen to it more. But no. Not one of the best!
The end material is actually quite entertaining, too. They joke around a lot instead of being all straight-laced and boring as the latest audios have going. Colin Baker and Yee Jee Tso do entertaining interviews. One of Nicholas Briggs’s more relaxed and fun interviews of a cast! It is a lovely wrap-up to the audio, that’s for sure.
