The Stageplays #2, October 2008
The plot centred around the Daleks, who were trying to take over the universe with the help of their crab-like slaves, the Clawrantulars.
Trevor Martin is our Doctor for this remake of the Terrance Dicks stage play, regenerating from the John Pertwee Doctor. Big Finish did a great job of creating this audio adventure with Terrance Dicks, who wrote the audio adaption as well as the original stage play. The Doctor shows up, falls out of the TARDIS disoriented, and Jimmy and Jenny help him back into the TARDIS and begin their adventures with him. They end up on Karn, where they wander into the forest with the Doctor and start to assemble the 7 keys into one piece, similar to the 7 keys to time with Tom Baker and Lalla Ward in my mind.
I hadn’t heard about this stage play before so I didn’t know the Daleks would be arriving in the story, which was actually fantastic! Not knowing really helped, to be honest, to make the Daleks more menacing. The Daleks don’t yet have the technology, apparently, to make their robot humans to infiltrate the rebels on the planet. So instead they resort to blackmail. But the Doctor always manages to thwart the Daleks! I really enjoyed this audio and it didn’t really bother me that Trevor Martin was playing the Doctor. The dynamic between Jenny and Jimmy is great as well, as he wants to just go home and she’s into the adventure. Sounded a bit like Flip and her boyfriend in The Curse of Davros. It was a fun distraction to listen to this audio adventure!Cast: The Doctor (Trevor Martin), Jenny (Charlie Hayes), Jimmy (Joe Thompson), Jedak (Nicholas Deal), Tara (Christine Brennan), Garm/The Master of Karn (Steven Wickham), Computer/Marko (Paul Thornley), Daleks (Nicholas Briggs)
writer: Terrance Dicks
