Big Finish audio drama, July 2008
Wow! Sheridan Smith really gets to show what she can do with Lucie Miller. And she does a grand old job of it, too. This is an excellent adventure with a centipede and some chanting mystical types. I won’t ruin anything by indicating that this all leads up to the possibility of meeting Morbius again (see the title of the next audio).
Here’s a brief summary of the Tom Baker, Elisabeth Slayden episode where the TARDIS is sent to the planet Kaan by the Time Lords. Check out www.wikipedia.org for the long version… There is a cult called to the Sisters of the Flame in the caves, while Solon is the evil mastermind in a castle on the hill trying to put together a Frankenstein’s monster for Morbius’s brain to inhabit, which he just happens to have handy in a glass jar. Naturally. Mayhem and many entertaining things ensue, leading up to Morbius being chased off a cliff, the Doctor being revived after his battle with the brain of Morbius, and the bad guys are all dead. The End.
Well apparently not! There’s an interview on this CD where they explain why they picked Morbius. Evil ex-time lord from a long forgotten past? Sounds like a plan! Here’s hoping he’s just as arrogant and crazed as he was back in the bad old days. So Paul McGann’s Doctor can defeat him. So far in this audio, Lucie is doing all of the leg work, investigating what has happened to the Doctor and finding out exactly who she can and cannot trust. Zarodnix, the obnoxious Time Lord, is back to “help” out and Lucie could care less. Apparently something serious is going down as the Time Lords believe that the galaxy, certainly time and space itself, could be destroyed.
At least, isn’t that how it always works? The Doctor! Where is the Doctor? We’ve bullied and pushed him around for years, time for him to save the universe. Again. If we can just find him this time. That’s really the only issue I have with this audio but if things are as botched up as they say, perhaps that’s why Zarodnix can’t pinpoint the Doctor’s location in time and space. Excellent story AND what a cliffhanger! oh my. oh my. oh MY! when’s my next CD coming??? I’ll be counting the days.
