The Skull of Sobek

Big Finish audio drama, April 2008

I think this is a great story but it’s a bit convoluted due to the two combatants involved.  Father crocodile and his son have spread their bloodbath across the universe to come to a sanctuary where the Skull sits.  Odd how easily Lucy becomes something out of her nightmares, too.  I found it a bit uneven at times as the abbott and abbottess (?) hide one of the combatants, which seems a bit out of character but wouldn’t make for a “good” story if they told what was going on, I guess.

The crocodiles fight over something that died long before and just are very single-minded in blaming each other for the downfall of their planet.  Perhaps that’s a reptilian characteristic?  Stubbornness…  That would include Lucy, though, so that would make a strange sort of sense.  Amazing how my reviews almost match how well the story make sense.  oh my.

Overall, it was a storyline that needed more time to really flesh it out, I think.  It was almost overtightened, like a bad bolt that makes things more unstable than they need be.  It’s a grand, universal sort of storyline that gets a bit squashed in translation into the shortened time for these stories.  The ending was amusing, though.  Mildly.  Sister Lucy to the rescue!  The only thing that bothers me is that she is being thrust into situations where she can’t really participate because she hasn’t got a clue and suddenly happens upon the solution to the problem, or at least a key piece of the puzzle.  It’s just happening almost every story, which is moderately annoying.  Is that the only way she can help out?  hmmm.  Just something to consider.
