The Zygon Who Fell to Earth

Big Finish audio drama, June 2008

I usually expect more from Paul Magrs stories but this one feels like they tried to cram it all in and had to cut out the parts that make it all make sense.  It’s a good audio in general but there are just too many odd things that happen to make it really, really good.  There is this Zygon fella and he fell to earth.  Touche!  I thought perhaps it was related to the story/book/movie of a similar title but no, not really.  So we find out the real story on Auntie Pat and her life before and after this incident at the chateau on Lake Grasmere.

There’s a lot of running around, the Doctor not figuring out that there’s a “problem” with Lucie, and mayhem to be had.  I did really have a problem with the Doctor not recognizing Lucie’s issue.  He usually picks up on odd behaviors of his companions within a relatively short amount of time in an adventure.  In this one, he’s clueless, mostly.  Does he not really know Lucie?  Is he just not noticing for the good of the plotline?  And why the heck do they need Trevor?  It’s sort of explained as he’s the Captain with the codes but why couldn’t they just get around him?  Zygon mentality, I suppose.  They won’t leave him behind?  No.  Just the hierarchical thing, I think.

It’s definitely touching at the end but does that make the whole story?  No.  It’s good but not fantastic.  So only a 3 jelloid rating for me!
