The Jigsaw War (#6.11)

  Big Finish, Companion Chronicles

Though I do love the 2nd Doctor – Jamie team, this is not one of the best stories about that team.  I found the efforts of the bad guy to undermine Jamie’s faith in his friend to be a bit weak and, though they were the basic point of the story, not clever enough to fool Jamie.  The best part of this story is how Jamie figures it all out for himself in the end.  I have listened to this story multiple times and I couldn’t figure out the sequence as it went along so Jamie doing it all in his head is pretty impressive!  The Doctor is peripherally involved but Jamie is using his wits to get the information he needs to escape.

I do LOVE the concept but I just found the story it was used in not very interesting.  I always assume Jamie will succeed and never really feel like he or Moran is any real danger.  I’m not sure if the information will free the natives and the humans from their real enslaver but it feels like a step in the right direction.  This is more of an atmospheric story, all taking place in one room on a base on an un-named planet.  Great concept but I just didn’t love the execution.  Next time, Mr. Robson! :)
