The Sands of Life (#2.02)

  Big Finish, Fourth Doctor Series

There are billions of creatures traveling through space and time, mucking up the TARDIS and wreaking havoc around humans, though unintentionally.  These creatures head for Earth and land in the Sahara desert, which they call “The Sands of Life.”  They’re telepathic and time sensitive and very powerful.  And there is a bit of close-mindedness on both sides for this story.

The Doctor and Romana get caught in the middle on this one, caught and interrogated by the military and treated as illegal aliens.  A bit unusual for them as they usually can get by and engender some trust from someone.  They only get marginal amounts here BUT it’s also a setup for part II, story 2.03.  This isn’t a bad story but the way people act is very greedy.  Is there no one with integrity left in the century portrayed?
