The Case of the Gluttonous Guru (5.2)

Big Finish Jago and Litefoot Series

This story has some of the more disgusting sound effects of any Big Finish audio. When Big Finish sets out to make something gross, they don’t do things by halves! The burping and stomach-ee noises were the only reason I can’t listen to this audio multiple times. But it is a very good audio. The story starts with a grotesque “murder” where we first hear the Earth Mother croaking. This frog has to be the size of a minivan! How it could get that size in the first place is my question! And the Swami is in need of a host for the Earth Mother’s tadpole. The process as described isn’t pretty or nice. And Henry Gordon Jago is the host of choice!

I do wonder how the egg is ‘transferred’ to HGJ in the first place, how he doesn’t notice the changes in his own personality, and why the professor and his agent don’t try to do something sooner. But it is somewhat explained by his level of busy-ness and popularity. I do like how everything is resolved though I’m not sure if the Swami survives. The gross sound effects aren’t overdone but they really take over the story. Did Christopher Benjamin do all of his on belching? It sure sounds like it! And it sounds like he’s having a blast in this one, too. It’s almost difficult to rate this story because of the sound effects but I gave it a go.
