Second Chances (#8.12)

  Big Finish, Companion Chronicles

This is a good final story for the Companion Chronicles series. It’s a bit melancholy – Zoe remembers everything and nothing at the same time. Sadly there is no final interview, just a trailer for the Early Years audios. I was under the wrong impression for those stories – they’re basically the 1st Doctor new adventures, as opposed to prior to the Doctor getting companions. But I don’t read much on the Internet about Dr. Who as I don’t like spoilers.

Zoe is with a new person who is trying to help her regain her memory – Kym. She has Zoe focus on a painful memory then uses it to her advantage. Kym wants to regain her previous position in the Company as a memory specialist and isn’t afraid to do whatever she has to in order to get there. Apparently because of a man. So they both go to revisit the memory both literally and figuratively. It’s a bit clever in spots yet the ending is a bit anticlimactic, ultimately. Very nice but I just felt it lacked the power of some of the other companion chronicles. Very appropriate ending, though!
