The House of Blue Fire (#152)

   Big Finish Main Range

This is one of the few disappointing 7th Doctor audios that Big Finish has done.  There’s mystery and suspense to start the story and the Doctor doesn’t show up until almost the 3rd section of the story but things go horribly wrong once he shows up and he doesn’t make them any better.  He can’t and honestly, once the action moves from the Blue Fire house, it just gets tedious.  The bad guy isn’t very interesting and is just a vague threat.  I never felt that the Doctor or anyone else was really in danger of dying, though people do.  Just not people we really learn to care about before they’re knocked off.  A rare “bad” audio drama story for the 7th Doctor as he doesn’t get to do any scheming in any sort of successful way where it goes horribly wrong and he pulls the proverbial rabbit out of the hat to make it all work out anyway.  The only real redeeming quality is the possibility of a new companion who will confound the Doctor by actually doing what he says.  How will he survive then?
