The Dark Husband (#106)

    Big Finish Main Range

This story had a lot of promise and sounded interesting but when it comes down to it, the story just falls flat. The best part of the story is the interaction between Ace and Hex. Hex is obviously a bit smitten and Ace is playing their relationship off as a sister-brother thing. Otherwise, the ending is just okay, the characters aren’t interesting and I just don’t care what happens to them. There are only moments where I care but it doesn’t last long.

Why should we care about this long war? It only affects these people on the two moons of the planet. There are thousands upon thousands dead but it’s the impact doesn’t appear to be impending doom for the universe or even for these people. I like the civilizations, the mystery that surrounds this unknown, symbolic ceremony, and how the way things appear to be is different from the reality behind the scenes. But it just never pans out and I just never really care about anyone in the story. There is no tension where I think the Doctor, Ace, and Hex are in any real danger. This just never really works for me as an adventure.
