Destiny of the Doctor: Shockwave

    Big Finish - Special Release

I didn’t love this story and it almost was a 3 jelloid story except that Ace gets a whole lot of good Ace-like stuff to do. The 8th Doctor shows up in the most storied way possible, with a whole mythology or religious order, depending how you define them, created around a Gallifreyan artifact. There’s a ship, a zealot willing to sacrifice people for an idea, and a challenge to Ace’s way of thinking of possibilities. Though Ace doesn’t really get to blow anyone up or damage anything, she spends time running around and imprisoned. And this is really the “ultimate” plan for the Doctor, which I almost groaned aloud from. Talk about being a schemer and a planner!

The action moves along nicely, the acting is great though Sophie Aldred’s “depiction” of the Doctor speaking was a bit odd. She has the mannerisms down but it just sounded strange. Everything’s all wrapped up in a nice little package at the end. Oh, and Ace isn’t spirited away either, strangely enough. So some companions aren’t taken and others are. Hmmm.
