The Eternal Battle (6.2)

  Big Finish, Fourth Doctor Series

I completely enjoyed this story, with its zombies and Sontarans and running around. Half the fun is always the running around! The Doctor and Romana (the second) land on a planet where crazed zombie-like creatures attack them within a few minutes, forcing them to abandon the TARDIS and be saved by the Sontarans, of all creatures. Thus they are forced into the middle of a battle between the undead and the alive, much like a George Romero film but with ray guns and tanks and grenades. The Doctor goes off to find the solution while Romana tries to keep the Field Major alive long enough for the Doctor to solve the problem and keep herself alive.

With a  clone race, shouldn’t they all sound like Dan Starkey? Soon he’ll be all of the Sontarans much as Nicholas Briggs is the voice of the Daleks! That would be okay by me, honestly. My only “beef” with this story is the living humans, who just come in to escalate things a bit. They really serve little purpose in this story except as zombies and if the live ones weren’t involved, it really wouldn’t change the story much at all. Otherwise, it’s quite an enjoyable story! The Sycon’s are new to me but apparently, they didn’t program their computers to be all that smart. More’s the pity there. Great stuff! Another Cavan Scott/Mark Wright classic.
